I'm guilty of deleting a couple essays. I question at times if a piece of writing is useful or not and I've certainly been in moods while writing that didn't produce something that had much value.
I think there are some cases where deleting something you may have published makes sense.
I did not elaborate in this post but what I mostly have in mind is when a writer does not want to take responsibility and, basically, simply wants to deceive their readers. Imagine, for example, a writer publishing an essay, receiving some responses highlighting some faults of their essay, and then deleting their original essay for the aforementioned reason.
The online world, for better or worse, provides features that are simply lacking in the real world.
