I am sick. For some reason, I’ve been coughing for two weeks straight, and today I woke up having some fever and some sort of cold. And now, after taking some paracetamol and feeling somewhat better, I thought to write an article about publishing on Substack for a year. But before we do that, we need to go a little bit back.
In July 2023, I discovered that humankind is a lost cause for anything truly valuable: preventing climate change, a different economy, a better life in general. After some days of feeling frustrated about it, I quickly accepted it and decided not to bother again. In fact, I was saying to my friends that I will stop being a researcher and a writer and I will become a dancer — or something else anyway.
But that did not last long. Around November 2023, I decided to start publishing on Substack, instead of continue publishing on my personal website. “I may be wrong” I thought, about humankind being a lost cause.
And here it comes today. One year later, I am convinced (again) that humankind is a lost cause. In fact, since July 2023, it has been more like a pendulum moving between ‘humankind is a lost cause’ and ‘maybe something can still be done’.
So, after a year of publishing on Substack, I think the best thing for me would be to stop being a researcher and a writer and start focusing on other personal things.
I think I wanted to write some more things on this One Year of Substack article but I will end this article here. Here is a song, instead — the same song that I finished my article Humankind: A Lost Cause a year and a half ago.
Stay strong and thank you for reading!
